Christian Aid Week 2022

Every gift. Every action. Every prayer. Every one of us can change lives.

Drought starves. It robs women of the power to farm and grow food for their families.

Now, for the first time in a generation, global poverty is rising. Covid-19, conflict and the climate crisis are pushing more of our global neighbours into a struggle for survival.

Women and men in Zimbabwe are hungry to provide a more hopeful future. Mums often skip meals to share with their children what little food they have.
One of these mums is Jessica Mwedzi. Drought makes every day a struggle for survival. Jessica is hungry. Hungry for a good meal. Hungry to earn a decent living. Hungry to provide a more hopeful future for her family.

‘My children crave a good meal, but I can’t provide.’ Jessica says. ‘It pains me to send them to bed hungry.’

Your gift could help Jessica grow drought-resistant crops. You could help her set up a water tap on her farm and learn how to grow food in the harsh climate. She’ll turn her dry, dusty land into a garden of hope.

This Christian Aid Week, you can be one of the hundreds of thousands of our supporters who give, act and pray – stepping out in love for our global neighbours. With you by our side, we won’t stop until everyone can live a full life, free from poverty and hunger.

From envelope collections to walking 300,000 steps in May, Christian Aid Week brings people together as one community helping those living in poverty to transform their own lives.

This Christian Aid Week (15-21 May), please:
• Give generously to help women grow crops that survive in the drought.
• Act and raise your voice for justice. Join our Loss and Damage campaign.
• Pray that families will stay strong during tough times of drought.

Together, we can turn hunger into hope.

Christmas Lunch 2021 – Update

On Christmas Eve, 71 ‘care packages’ with a pre-cooked Christmas Dinner, trimmings and extra goodies, were delivered to people in and around Denbigh who would be on their own on Christmas Day.

This was a huge team effort and special thanks go to all the volunteers, generosity of local businesses and people who so kindly donated.

Hopefully, Christmas 2022 will see us back together in St Thomas’s Church Hall for the annual Christmas Day Lunch. Until then, stay safe and many blessings to you all.

Christmas Lunch 2021

St Thomas’ Church Christmas Day Lunch 2021

In view of the continuing Covid problems we have decided it would be unwise to have a large gathering in our church hall on Christmas Day.

However, on Christmas Eve we will be delivering a Christmas meal, together with all the festive trimmings, to anyone who might be on their own on Christmas Day.

If you would like a meal delivered please get in touch as soon as possible. There is no cost for this as it is funded it via very kind donations.

Also if anyone has time to help as a driver we would be pleased to hear from you.

Please call to book your meal or for more information:

Christian Aid Week 2021

Christian Aid Week this year is May 10th – 16th

Christian Aid exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty”

Unfortunately, during the past year none of the usual Christian Aid fundraising activities in Denbigh have been able to take place due to the coronavirus pandemic and although restrictions have eased somewhat, we feel it would be unwise to conduct the usual “house-to-house” collection this year.   However, the need to fight poverty and injustice remains  –  more so than ever –  so we would encourage everyone to support the vital work of Christian Aid by one of the following methods:-

  1. Using the “JustGiving” page

Clicking on this link also gives information about the work of Christian Aid.

  1. Donating via the local committee account

Bank: HSBC UK, Denbigh.

Sort Code: 40-19-12

Account  number: 01012118

Account name: Cymorth Cristionogol – Cangen Dinbych

  1. Contacting Pat who will collect any cash donations.

Christian Aid Week Prayer

Great God, Who makes the sun to rise, and opens the heavens,

Hear the cry of the people who sow in hope for rain, but reap only despair;

Hear the cry of the people seeking shelter from the storm, their hopes and homes submerged;

Hear the cry of the people, when creation is hitting back, with rage and resistance;

Give us hope, grant us salvation; give us a new relationship with creation;

with reverence to tend this gift from You and say once again of the earth and all you created  –

It is GOOD.

(Bob Kikuyu Global Theology Advisor, Christian Aid)
